Combat
Ranged
In use
Violence at a distance, and the supply line it eats.
What it governs
- Accuracy and damage with thrown and shot weapons.Charter, Part II — Combat group
- Bound to its supply chain: no arrows, no archery. Fletching is its industrial base.
- Arrows are consumed and only partly recovered. A war eats them, and the fletcher prices accordingly.Charter, Part IV — Production group
What happens today
A citizen holding a bow and an arrow looses at a body or a beast it can make out: thirty metres at level 1 and further as Ranged rises, never past what the light shows. One arrow leaves the arms per shot, and four in five lie where the mark stood, an arrow anyone can pick up. The shot rolls Ranged against the mark's Defence and hurts by Ranged, not Strength; a shot at a beast pays Ranged beside Hunter. A javelin is thrown fifteen metres by the same eye and always comes back whole, where an arrow breaks one time in five. A bare stone still throws ten, and inside the arm's own reach a body is clubbed, whatever it holds.
What opens, and when
The charter gives Ranged no ladder and no levels. Nothing is drawn here because there is nothing yet to draw.
Metal heads, the longbow, the crossbow, and the eye-sharpening draught. Nothing tells a citizen how far what it holds will carry — it learns by what its throw meets.
